Stella (aka Trixie)

by

Meet sweet Stella.

This pretty little lady is one tough cookie. Miss Stella has kept her cool through some very tough times lately and despite all that she’s been through – she’s still keeping a happy outlook on life! More on how Stella is doing in foster care to come in future posts, I promise. For now, a little background on this sweet gal.

Stella was found in a Piggly Wiggly parking in Louisiana just a few weeks ago. It was obvious to her rescuers that she had just given birth to a litter of puppies; but her pups were nowhere to be found. Once at the shelter, volunteers realized that Stella also had a broken right front leg that had clearly healed incorrectly leaving her uncomfortable and “gimpy”. She was also heartworm positive. Luckily, Stella’s story doesn’t end there.

Thanks to some crossposting by dedicated rescue volunteers, I came across Stella’s photo. She broke my heart, even from 1,200 miles away because my heart dog, Lila, came from virtually the same situation. A legged transport was organized to move Stella from Louisiana to Virginia this past weekend. With the help of countless volunteers, Stella traveled 17+ hours in one weekend – and we’re so happy to have her here. (thank you to each of you who took time out of your weekend to help us save Stella!)

Stella has only been in foster care for a few days, but she’s already getting used to the life of luxury. She loves having a plush dog bed to call her own and gobbles down her breakfast and dinner every night like a champ. Stella shows her appreciation by smothering me with puppy kisses any chance she gets. And like a loyal pup, she’s never far from my side … in fact, she’s snoring with her little nose on my slipper right now.

Like Clarke – Miss Stella will be seeing the vet on Tuesday to find out exactly what is going on with that leg & to come up with a treatment course for her heartworms. All fingers and paws crossed here for some happy results – we’ll keep you posted!

hey baby girl – your foot looks ouchy – i hope the doctors have started you on some good pain meds for it and that they are helping. my feet & legs hurt too, but it’s because of a disease i have, not because they broke like yours did. you are a beautiful chocolate girl and i’m hoping for nothing but the best for you. i’m out of work right now because of my ouchies, so i can’t donate much, but i figure if everyone gives a little we can get there together right? a smile on your face is worth all the money in the world – i wish you a speedy recovery.
    love & hugs from tracy

My puppy was rescued from a puppy mill somewhere in South Georgia on December 2, 2009. I so wish I knew the story. She could have been rescued from the same place mentioned above. Anyway, a group in Florida brought her down here and she is amazingly sweet. She was so scared and it has taken over year to get her to calm down. Her breed looks to be a Tan/White/Black Brindle Greyhound/Shephard mix and someone had named her Edyta. She had a brother, but he was adopted out earlier. Puppy Mills should be a thing of the past – horrible places.
