help a pup & have a chance to win an ipod!

As most of you know, sweet Aspen went in for her second eye-surgery today.

After 2+ hours of surgery, she came out a new pup.

During her first surgery (several weeks ago), the plan was to loosen the muscles surrounding part of her eye and to pull the eye towards the center to help give her more vision, suturing her eye in place. Unfortunately, that surgery did not work. The goal for today’s surgery was to loosen the ligament that pulled her eye towards her nose & remove the fibrous tissue in the side of her eye. By doing so, her eye was allowed to return to a normal position on its own (without sutures/stitches to hold it in place).

By all accounts – it seems to have worked!

Aspen did not get out of surgery until close to 6:00pm tonight and was still very woozy from the anesthetic. She is staying the night at Virginia Tech’s Vet School and will have her vision evaluated in the morning.

It still may be several days, or several weeks, until we know for sure how much vision she actually has post-surgery – but the veterinarians feel that they have done what they could to restore the vision she may have. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more. For tonight, we are just overwhelmed, overjoyed, and overly-exhausted. Aspen’s adoptive mom, Andrea, spent 12+ hours today sitting in the waiting room (or waiting in the hotel room) for Aspen & I sat at my desk with my fingers crossed all day! Thank you for those of you who called, emailed, texted or messaged us to find out how she’s doing.

It warms our heart to know that Aspen has so many friends looking out for her.

Who knew a tiny puppy abandoned in Louisiana could find such an amazing network of friends across the US.

And speaking of Aspen’s awesome network of friends …. we have a challenge for you!

We need help raising part of the money for Aspen’s surgery!

We have several hundred dollars set aside for her appointment, ultrasound, etc – but have close to $900 left to raise to cover her surgery cost. We have set up a chipin site to help us track the donations coming in towards Aspen’s surgery!

You can visit Aspen’s chipin site here!

& by helping fund Aspen’s surgery you are also setting yourself up to (potentially) win a brand new iPod Nano!

Here’s the twist: Every single person who donates $5 or more is going to be entered into our giveaway to win a brand new touch screen iPod Nano! The more you donate, the more chances you have to win. Makes sense, right? With every $5 donation you get an extra chance to win.

For instance: Donate $5 – your name is entered once.  Donate $10- your name is entered twice.  Donate $15- your name is entered three times  …. and so on.

Once we have reached our chipin goal a winner will be selected using

We call this a win-win.

Giving never felt so good, eh?

We realize that most of our blog-followers are rescuers, past adopters, co-workers, future adopters & friends. We realize that many of you, too, are in tough spots financially right now. If you’re able to give even $5 to help with Aspen’s surgery – we were be forever indebted to you. $5 may seem like a small amount to you, but it makes a world of difference when it comes to helping Aspy!

Not able to donate right now? That’s okay – there’s another way you can help! Can you crosspost this blog post to some of your family & friends, rescue contacts, coworkers, girl scout leaders, sorority sisters? You can do so by highlighting this link  and the copying & pasting it into your facebook status, twitter status, or email.

Thank you in advance for your help!
