& we’re back {again}

April 8, 2012

Hi, friends!

It’s been an embarrassingly long time since we’ve posted, I know.

The good news is that we have been BUSY with Bonnie Blue Rescue stuff lately — and I mean *B-U-S-Y*!

There have been a whole lot of great things happening over the last few weeks (and hopefully over the next few months) & we are so excited to share them with you!

A quick rundown & then we’ll try to get back to more regular posting:

  • Rose’s 10 rosebuds are almost ready for their forever families! Check them out on our Petfinder page at www.bonniebluerescue.petfinder.com
  • Rose journeyed to AL this past weekend — she starts heartworm treatment in the next week & then she will be ready for her forever family in 6-8 weeks – woohoo! This baby girl has come a long way!
  • We took in a super cool husky named Isis — she is enjoying the good life in CT with her foster mom & learning the ropes about being an indoor, adored member of the family. If her foster mom doesn’t fall in love, she’ll be up for adoption in a few weeks!
  • 5 more Catahoula mix puppies rescued last from the back of a truck at a gas station — not kidding. Adorable, sweet, stunningly beautiful.
  • 28 amazing, adorable, sweet puppies who are going to be heading north in the next few weeks! 28. Oh my!
  • FOSTER FAMILIES NEEDED!! We need 2-4 week fosters to sign up to foster one (or two) of these sweet pups for the few weeks that they will be in BBR foster homes! You can fill out a foster home application online here: http://bit.ly/FPQRiR  (remember: we can provide a crate, toys, chewies, etc — we just ask that you provide food & lots of love)
  • Hope the pointer girl redefines the meaning of the word ‘hope’. No joke. More on her soon.
  • Transports, transports & more transports! We have a run of adorable lab pups heading from LA to VA & NJ this coming weekend. Stay tuned for the run sheet — we’d love your help driving! 🙂
  • Lots of awesome pups making their way to forever families — yay for Poppet, Bacon, Amos (Anderson), Jax, Beaux, Ivy, Winston & many others! Happy Tails coming your way pronto.
  • New merchandise up on our Zazzle store – http://www.zazzle.com/bonniebluerescue**
  • Two Richmond, VA area adoption events later this month – details soon!
  • We are looking for guest bloggers! Got a foster update you want to share? Want to teach our readers about some very cool dog thing you do? Got tips for how to bathe a pup without breaking your back? Want to talk about why you feed raw? Could you do a post on how to keep your pup mentally active? Got advice on crate games? Separation anxiety? Could you help us write a “what to do when your dog gets lost” post? We need you! In order to keep this blog interesting & fun {& updated more often!} we would WELCOME additional writers! Email us at bonniebluerescue@gmail.com if you might be game! As an extra incentive … free BBR tshirt to the first 5 folks who volunteer to write a blog for us! 😉

Hope that you have a very “hoppy” weekend!

In desperate need of foster families!!

February 11, 2012

We are in desperate need of foster families!

We think fostering for Bonnie Blue Rescue can be an incredibly rewarding experience and hope that you will, too! Fostering one of these pups will be a short-term, 2-4 week (max) commitment. Bonnie Blue Rescue will provide a crate, chewies, toys, etc — we just ask that our foster families provide food and lots of love.

Cindy (black female) & Bobby (blue merle male) are adorable 12-13 week old Labrador Retriever/Catahoula Leopard Dog mixes. These two babies and their littermate, Jan, were rescued from a high kill shelter just in the nick of time. They are well-mannered pups who are learning all about cratetraining and housebreaking in their short-term foster home in Louisiana. Cindy & Bobby will need individual foster homes starting this coming weekend (2/18 & 2/19).

Jan is also a 12 week old Catahoula Leopard Dog/Labrador Retriever mix. Like Cindy & Bobby, Jan is learning all about good puppy manners in her short term foster home in Louisiana. Jan is doing well with cratetraining and housebreaking and is an all-around amazing little pup! Jan is looking for a foster home starting this coming weekend (2/18 & 2/19).

Greta is an absolutely STUNNING red merle Catahoula Leopard Dog girl. She is right at one year old and is nothing short of amazing. You might recognize Greta’s pretty face — she is the puppy in our new Bonnie Blue Rescue logo! Greta was returned to rescue as her family’s situation has changed and they are no longer able to provide the perfect home for her. Greta is a wonderful girl who is cratetrained, housebroken, and who knows basic commands. Greta LOVES LOVES LOVES to play ball, is great with other dogs, kids and even cats! This girl would make a very happy addition to any home!

168 (& welcome 2012!)

January 11, 2012

With the help of our shelter-rescue partners, short-term fosters, long-term fosters, transporters, crossposters, supporters and friends ….

2011 was an absolutely awesome year for Bonnie Blue Rescue!

But before I share our AWESOME NEWS with you …. let’s take a look back!

In 2009, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 5 foster homes and rescued 52 dogs.

In 2010, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 14 foster homes and rescued 93 dogs.

And 2011? 2011 was an even more amazing year than that!

In 2011, Bonnie Blue Rescue utilized 32 foster homes and rescued 168 dogs!

Even cooler than that? Of those 168, 36 were special needs pups –

5 came from a cruelty case in Mobile, AL

6 required major surgery while in the care of Bonnie Blue Rescue

22 were heartworm positive & went through heartworm treatment

15 were super seniors.

GO TEAM!

I am so very proud to be a part of the Bonnie Blue Rescue crew. I am proud to be a part of an organization who helps all pups regardless of breed, age, disability or special needs status. Who goes above and beyond to save the pups that other rescues walk away from, or ignore. And I am so, so proud of the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to continue to support our small organization with your volunteer hours, crossposting help, networking assistance, donations, love and support.

From the bottom of my heart — THANK YOU — rescue would not be possible without you.

We cannot wait to see what is in store for 2012!

Considering fostering? Join us in 2012. The more fosters we have, the more pups we can save!
