168 (& welcome 2012!)

January 11, 2012

With the help of our shelter-rescue partners, short-term fosters, long-term fosters, transporters, crossposters, supporters and friends ….

2011 was an absolutely awesome year for Bonnie Blue Rescue!

But before I share our AWESOME NEWS with you …. let’s take a look back!

In 2009, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 5 foster homes and rescued 52 dogs.

In 2010, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 14 foster homes and rescued 93 dogs.

And 2011? 2011 was an even more amazing year than that!

In 2011, Bonnie Blue Rescue utilized 32 foster homes and rescued 168 dogs!

Even cooler than that? Of those 168, 36 were special needs pups –

5 came from a cruelty case in Mobile, AL

6 required major surgery while in the care of Bonnie Blue Rescue

22 were heartworm positive & went through heartworm treatment

15 were super seniors.

I am so very proud to be a part of the Bonnie Blue Rescue crew. I am proud to be a part of an organization who helps all pups regardless of breed, age, disability or special needs status. Who goes above and beyond to save the pups that other rescues walk away from, or ignore. And I am so, so proud of the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to continue to support our small organization with your volunteer hours, crossposting help, networking assistance, donations, love and support.

From the bottom of my heart — THANK YOU — rescue would not be possible without you.

We cannot wait to see what is in store for 2012!

Considering fostering? Join us in 2012. The more fosters we have, the more pups we can save!

K-k is ready for his home!

WANTED: One amazing family for one amazing pup!

Sweet Kellum has been in foster care for 9 months waiting around for his forever family to come and find him.

Since they’re having a hard time finding him, I promised him that I would do a blog post just for him. Hopefully our blog-land and facebook friends can “share” this link so that we can track down K-man’s forever family. He really loves life in foster care and has been waiting ever so patiently, but truth be told, Kellum is so ready for a home and a family of his own.

Kellum is looking for an extra special home. One that will love him endlessly, have lots of free time for snuggles and kisses, and one who will understand that sometimes he might be a little shy in new social situations. Though a social butterfly when it comes to meeting new dogs and cats, Kellum can be a bit timid when meeting new human friends.

Kellum had a sad start to life, as a very young puppy he was turned over to a local Humane Society. In theory, it was a good plan because this particular humane society was “no-kill”. Unfortunately, it did not work out well for Kellum. Because the HS was no-kill, they adoption floor was often full of less adoptable dogs, leaving litters and litters of puppies in the back room, never making it to the adoption floor. Kellum was one of the “back room” puppies – and he remained in the back room for 4 months, until he was taken into rescue.

It is our impression that his shyness with new people now is due to both lack of socialization early on and someone being rather unkind to him. It breaks our heart to imagine someone being unkind to this sweet, sweet guy. He is such a total lover-boy.

Kellum loves to spend his days hanging out in the back yard, zooming around with his foster brothers and sisters. He loves, loves, loves to romp and play but knows to be extra gentle with the younger foster pups in our home. Kellum can totally turn up the volume when romping with the older pups. He plays “catahoula” (a rowdy version of knock-down, drag-out) quite well!

Kellum has just started going for walks around the neighborhood, and he loves it! This guy is all about exploring new places. His foster sister, Lila, helps boost his confidence on walks – but we also think a family member reminding him that he’s a “good boy” would be more than enough to keep his confidence boosted, too!

Sweet Kellum has such a big capacity to love. Is there anyone out there looking for a handsome, loyal, loving boy like him?

Interested in meeting this handsome guy? Do you have room in your heart and home for one extra special pup? I can absolutely assure you that Kellum is one pup who is worth the effort. He is amazing.

If so, email us at and request more information on Kellum or a copy of our adoption application.

Short Term Fosters Needed!

September 20, 2010

*Update – we have a short term foster now lined up for Kellum – thank you Jessica & Paul!*

***Please Note: Sophia is still in need of a 2 week foster to avoid going into boarding***

Hi friends,

We have an urgent need for short term fosters!

Would you be able to help us out for the next 2-3 weeks? Both Kellum & Sophia arrive this coming Sunday and will have to go into boarding (which is bad for their mental health & our dwindling bank account) if we cannot find short-term fosters for them!

Can’t help by fostering? That’s ok – we understand. Can you send this link to a few friends/family members? Coworkers? Anyone you think might be able to help!

Meet Kellum – he is a 8 month old Catahoula mix boy who is on the small side. Kellum is housebroken & crate trained, and loves to play with other pups. Kellum would be fine to be fostered in a home with children or other dogs. He also does well with kitties! Kellum needs a 2-3 week foster home. Kellum is approx 30-35 lbs now.

Sweet Sophia is a one year old purebred Husky girl. Sophia needs a 2 week temporary foster, as she has a long-term foster that she will be going to on Oct 9th. Sophia is housebroken and crate trained and would do best if she could receive one-on-one or two-on-one attention in her foster home. She has had a rough few months ending up in the shelter & being bounced from boarding to short term fosters, that extra TLC is definitely needed for this sweetie. She is a super sweet affectionate girl who loves to be rubbed on and snuggled! Sophia is approx 40-45 lbs.

Remember – we will provide a crate, food, toys & treats for all BBR fosters!

Email us ASAP at if you’re interested in providing a short term foster home for either Sophia or Kellum!

Transport Fri/Sat/Sun, Sept 24-26

September 19, 2010

***NOTE: This transport FILLED!***

Sadly, we had to cancel our transport this past weekend due to lack of drivers. This meant that several pups were stuck with “short term” fosters longer than they were supposed to be, and two other pups were stuck in boarding for another week. Boo. So we’re trying again this weekend! I realize that on some legs there are as many as 6 dogs. These dogs can easily be split between two drivers for each leg, if needed. If you are volunteering to drive, just email me back and let me know how many dogs you can accommodate in your vehicle. As a reminder: Biscuit, Picasso & Miracle will each be traveling in a tiny cat carrier. Sophia MUST be crated during transport if she is in the car with another uncrated dog. Pinto & Kellum are both very friendly and can ride crated or uncrated in a vehicle.

Meet this weekend’s tiniest passengers:

& Picasso
