168 (& welcome 2012!)

January 11, 2012

With the help of our shelter-rescue partners, short-term fosters, long-term fosters, transporters, crossposters, supporters and friends ….

2011 was an absolutely awesome year for Bonnie Blue Rescue!

But before I share our AWESOME NEWS with you …. let’s take a look back!

In 2009, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 5 foster homes and rescued 52 dogs.

In 2010, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 14 foster homes and rescued 93 dogs.

And 2011? 2011 was an even more amazing year than that!

In 2011, Bonnie Blue Rescue utilized 32 foster homes and rescued 168 dogs!

Even cooler than that? Of those 168, 36 were special needs pups –

5 came from a cruelty case in Mobile, AL

6 required major surgery while in the care of Bonnie Blue Rescue

22 were heartworm positive & went through heartworm treatment

15 were super seniors.

I am so very proud to be a part of the Bonnie Blue Rescue crew. I am proud to be a part of an organization who helps all pups regardless of breed, age, disability or special needs status. Who goes above and beyond to save the pups that other rescues walk away from, or ignore. And I am so, so proud of the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to continue to support our small organization with your volunteer hours, crossposting help, networking assistance, donations, love and support.

From the bottom of my heart — THANK YOU — rescue would not be possible without you.

We cannot wait to see what is in store for 2012!

Considering fostering? Join us in 2012. The more fosters we have, the more pups we can save!

Patches & Pokemon – The Lucky Ones

March 9, 2011

Remember these cute guys?

They’re the lucky ones.

Patches and Pokemon were both rescued from Chesterfield County Animal Shelter, a  high-kill shelter in rural South Carolina. These pups both have a very happy ending – they’ve been adopted out to amazing forever families.

Sadly, at least six (and likely up to twenty-two) other pups from Chesterfield County Animal Shelter in South Carolina were not as lucky.

Last Friday those pups were taken out of the Animal Shelter, walked across the road to the local dump, and were used as target practice. Their bodies were buried at the dump.

We’ve been following this story for several days now, but it just seems to get more horrific each day. The idea that something like this could happen in a city/county shelter that is run through the Sheriff’s department shocked us beyond belief. Even more so, the realization that this is not the first time this has happened as evidenced by the bones of long-dead bodies and bones that investigators keep finding at the dump, has all of us more than a little heartsick.

This situation is disgusting, and disturbing, and beyond heartbreaking.

It is time for a change in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

Pokey update!

November 29, 2010

Pokey (and Patches) have officially made it to rescue.

It looks like Pokey is settling into his short-term foster home quite well!

Pokey is doing well with crate training & housebreaking and is such a sweet boy (full of kisses).

We’re pretty sure he knows that only good things are ahead of him.

If you are interested in providing a foster home or adoptive home for this sweet boy, please email us at

Patches & Pokemon

November 2, 2010

Meet our newest additions …

& Pokemon (Pokey).

They are sad, scared guys right now – but they’re going to be out of the shelter so soon!

These sweet Catahoula mix brothers are going to be joining Bonnie Blue Rescue in just a week or so (after a short quarantine period to make sure they’re not sick).

We need help finding foster homes for them. Patches & Pokemon are both young male Catahoula mix pups. We’re still waiting to find out their age/size/vetting status – but we can update you as we know more. We will provide food, crate, puppy toys, medical care & even transportation to/from the vet – all we need is a loving foster home to take each of these sweet boys in & spoil them rotten. Any interest in temporarily opening your heart and home to one of these babies? If so, email us at!
