Meet Gigi.

This gorgeous purebred Labrador Retriever girl is just waiting for her perfect forever family to come and find her! Gigi will be 3 years old in October. The first few years of her life were not the easiest … but things have gotten much, much better since then.

Gigi was bought by a family who were “not dog people” (by their own admission). They had a young daughter who wanted a puppy, so they got her one. The daughter played with Gigi for a little while and then grew tired of her. When the girl didn’t want to play with her anymore, Gigi got stuck in an outdoor pen behind the house — and the family rarely interacted with her after that. She received basic vet care, thankfully, but missed out on being a cherished member of the family.

Can you imagine any lab pup, with so much love to give, being stuck behind a house like that? It breaks our heart to think of Gigi spending the better part of her puppyhood in a situation like that. Just sitting out back waiting to be loved. ūüė¶

Amazingly, none of this less-than-ideal treatment early on has phased Gigi. She is still a happy-go-lucky typical lab girl. Eager to please, thankful for love. Gigi’s foster mom describes her¬†as a wonderful girl. She has never had an accident in the house, sleeps on a dog bed next to her foster’s bed and has not chewed on anything that she was not supposed to. Gigi is very excited about nylabones! The first few days that she was in her foster home she was so excited to have a nylabone that she tried to eat her meals WITH the bone in her mouth. Sweet girl!¬†Gigi is also very smart and always happy and wagging her tail. Gigi is very motivated by human interaction and love (& nylabones!).

If you are looking for a pup to brighten your heart and home — look no further.

This happy, funny, sweet lab girl is the one for you!

168 (& welcome 2012!)

January 11, 2012

With the help of our shelter-rescue partners, short-term fosters, long-term fosters, transporters, crossposters, supporters and friends ….

2011 was an absolutely awesome year for Bonnie Blue Rescue!

But before I share our AWESOME NEWS with you …. let’s take a look back!

In 2009, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 5 foster homes and rescued 52 dogs.

In 2010, Bonnie Blue Rescue had 14 foster homes and rescued 93 dogs.

And 2011? 2011 was an even more amazing year than that!

In 2011, Bonnie Blue Rescue utilized 32 foster homes and rescued 168 dogs!

Even cooler than that? Of those 168, 36 were special needs pups –

5 came from a cruelty case in Mobile, AL

6 required major surgery while in the care of Bonnie Blue Rescue

22 were heartworm positive & went through heartworm treatment

15 were super seniors.

I am so very proud to be a part of the Bonnie Blue Rescue crew. I am proud to be a part of an organization who helps all pups regardless of breed, age, disability or special needs status. Who goes above and beyond to save the pups that other rescues walk away from, or ignore. And I am so, so proud of the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to continue to support our small organization with your volunteer hours, crossposting help, networking assistance, donations, love and support.

From the bottom of my heart — THANK YOU —¬†rescue would not be possible without you.

We cannot wait to see what is in store for 2012!

Considering fostering? Join us in 2012. The more fosters we have, the more pups we can save!

Azlin is up for adoption!

August 3, 2011

This sweet slice of chocolate cake is a lovely young labbie who loves anyone and everything!

Azlin is spunky, loving, very smart and is ready to please.

She loves playing with her toys, romping with her foster dogs and cuddling with her foster mommy.

Azlin is the center of attention and is miss social butterfly!

She loves meeting new people, new doggie friends and most of all, loves kids.

Azlin isn’t shy of handing out those wonderful pupper kisses!

Azlin has had a rough start but is back in the game and ready for a new beginning.

She had a pretty bad boo boo causing her to lose her rear leg, but that does not slow her down.

She is adapting terrific!

Who says a tripod is no fun, she begs to differ!

Check out Azlin’s video from this week:

If you are interested in adopting Azlin, please email us at and request a copy of our adoption application!

If you’d like to read more about Azlin’s surgery or donate a few dollars to help us pay it off (for which we would be forever grateful!), you can go here:
