Coming Soon ….

June 23, 2010

Meet our new Momma dog & her gorgeous litter of pups.

Sweet Penelope was rescued from a kill shelter in West Monroe, Louisiana by her guardian angel, Christy. Christy fell in love with this sweet older pregnant momma dog, and couldn’t stand to see her getting passed-by at the shelter, so Christy took her into her vet to have her spayed & give Penelope a chance at a new life. Little did the vets know how very pregnant miss Penelope was – she delivered NINE puppies the very next day. What a lucky girl to have made it out of the shelter, to a vet clinic in time to deliver these babies! The great news is that these pups have been quarantined since birth, not being exposed to all of the “shelter funk” that puppies born in a shelter are exposed to. Yay!

A big thank you to Christy for stepping up to save this momma dog & allowing her and her pups to make it to a new life!

These babies and their momma are currently with a ROCK STAR foster family in Louisiana, but will be moving to foster care through Bonnie Blue Rescue in the coming weeks which means ….

WE NEED FOSTER HOMES!

Never fostered before? No worries! We’re happy to walk you through the process, explain what fostering is all about, and see if it might be a good fit for your family.

… and guess where we went this weekend?? It was miss Stella’s first “post-heartworm treatment” trip to the river – and she LOVED it! This girl definitely needs to find a forever home where she can get some swimming in. Sadly, she only has a month or so of swimming fun ahead of her, before it’s time for her hip surgery. But don’t worry – we’re maximizing the river fun while we can!

(the darling yellow lab mix girl is Courtney’s pup, Lila – a post on how Lila joined rescue and then Courtney’s family coming soon!)

Big transport #2 for the weekend! AL, GA, TN, VA, MD, PA, NJ, NY legs needed to save 3 this weekend!

June 8, 2010

We have three very cool passengers this weekend! One is Penny a darling mini Catahoula mix girl who ended up at a shelter in AL, luckily the shelter contacted us and we were happy to take this sweet, smiling girl into rescue! Penny will be traveling from B’ham, AL – Washington, DC to foster care. Zelly’s story almost ended at the shelter – this skinny thing was slated for euthanizia. But after a lot of phone calls, emails, and volunteers helping – we were able to move Zelly to a vet’s office for quality care and lots of TLC. She is finally putting on some weight and is healthy as can be! Zelly will be traveling from Atlanta, GA – Waterbury, CT to foster care.  And we’ve just added Ami to this transport – Ami is a darling husky girl who came into the shelter with a 2 pound tumor on her leg! After surgery, she’s finally healthy enough to travel. Ami will be traveling from Montgomery, AL – Richmond, VA.

Can you help these sweeties on their way?
Courtney

Bo & Luke’s Road Trip: Vol 1

June 2, 2010

Thought you all might enjoy these photos of our sweet boys from their big trip today.

First off – a HUGE thank you to Natalie and MaryAnn for driving these pups today!!

Trust me when I say that transporters never get enough credit. Natalie and MaryAnn gave up their entire day today to drive these boys from Mobile – Birmingham. Thank you both so much! It was wonderful knowing that they were well-cared for and well-loved on their road trip.

As you can see Bo, the catahoula guy, (pictured above) is still pretty skinny – but he’s gaining weight and is as sweet as can be.

Luke, the hound/boxer mix guy, (pictured above) has really filled out over the past few weeks, but we need to work on treating his skin condition before he can head to true foster care.

Please keep these sweet guys in your thoughts and prayers. They’ve come a VERY long way so far thanks to the Mobile County Animal Shelter & Dr. Lentz of Rhem Animal Clinic …. but they still have a long road ahead!

We think Luke is definitely saying “bye bye Mobile, hello new life” in this photo!

Of all of the photos we saw today of Bo & Luke, the one below is the one that really got me (thank you Wendy for capturing this stunning photo).

Something about the look in Bo’s face tells me that he knows, for the first time in his life, that everything is going to be okay.

That he is well-loved and that he will never want for anything again.

Thank you for making that possible through your support, donations, and positive thoughts and prayers for these pups.

If you’re interested in donating for Luke and Bo’s continued medical care you can do so by making an online donation at http://bonniebluerescue.chipin.com/luke

OR by calling in a donation to our vet:

CROSSROADS ANIMAL HOSPITAL      1826 Carl Jones Road Moody, AL 35004-3217     (205) 640-4327

These pups are  under the account BONNIE BLUE RESCUE (Courtney Groves) “LUKE”  and “BO”. They can take credit cards by phone and if you wish to mail a check, please mail to the above address and in the notes field of your check please specify donation go to BONNIE BLUE RESQ account “LUKE”.

Thank you in advance for your continued support! We couldn’t do it without you!

Bo & Luke have arrived today to Crossroads Animal Hospital!!

June 2, 2010

Bo & Luke have made their way to Birmingham!! Both are doing well after todays trip.  They are settling in with Dr Nelson at Crossroads. THANKS DR NELSON FOR LOOKING AFTER THESE SWEETIES!  They will continue to receive some TLC at the vets office for a while and continued medical care until they are both cleared and ready to go into foster care.

There has been some improvement with some weight gain on the catahoula so we are thrilled with this 🙂

These sweethearts still have quite a ways to go so please keep them both in your thoughts and prayers.
